The Building is located within the Venetian walls of Nicosia and consists of three buildings built in the 30s, 50s and 60s.
In order to be able to gain height and add two additional floors to the building we are proposing to demolish the middle building creating a Piazza in the middle that enables the existing Plateia to extend through the building and join the back streets with the Municipality walls and park. Additionally by doing this we enable the semi basement level to be accessible from street level bringing more life into the Area.
The building inspired by the 60s captures the most prominent corner of the plot, modelling trademark circular balconies that are very characteristic to the building. Our proposal enhances the Architectural elements of the circular balconies and repeat the detail throughout the building and into the Piazza, with overhanging circular balconies draping along the path not only creating shade for the passers by but also creating an atmosphere of the 'geitonia' as one would experience it in the 21st century.
